Welcome to the
ausgolf Membership site where we aim to provide up-to-date information on the various golf club memberships available around Australia.

Joining a Golf Club involves more than selecting a course on which to play golf. Private Clubs of all descriptions are institutions valued and jealously guarded by their members in much the same way as one protects the family home. Members usually wish to preserve certain traditions and to enjoy the company of like-minded individuals both on the course and in the clubhouse. For these reasons, prospective members must usually be introduced by existing members of some standing, who need to assure their fellow members that the prospect will “fit in”. Whilst this may seem quite daunting and even “unfair” to a non-member, it works both ways, in as much as a substantial investment is often required in both time and dollars to gain Club membership. The annual fee at many inner city Private Golf Clubs is around $2000 and the Joining Fee can be several times this amount. Waiting periods of many years may be encountered.
An alternative or interim step to full Club Membership is to join an organisation that provides private course access along with handicap benefits.
Initially, many prospective Golf Club Members will be guided by social or business contacts who already belong to a desirable Club. For those new to golf or new to the area in which they wish to consider membership the selection process may be a little more basic.
Begin with the local street directory or the maps within
The Golf Course Guide and identify Clubs within acceptable distance from home. Contact these Clubs and enquire about the process for gaining membership. Then ascertain if it is possible to play golf as a green fee player.
If green fee play is permitted, it is a simple matter to visit the course and assess its suitability. Access to the clubhouse will usually be provided. Try to strike up a conversation with members. Perhaps they will introduce you to others or offer to play golf with you.
Where unaccompanied visitors are not accepted, there may be circumstances whereby a “Manager Introduction” can be provided, particularly where memberships are available. In other cases it is necessary to find a member who is willing to invite you as his Guest.
