About a year ago I was watching the golf and the focus was on golfing legend Freddie Couples. What a cool dude. But what really caught my eye were the casual golf shoes he was wearing. They looked like something a teenager would knock around in.
I searched around for those cool shoes and they came with a cool price tag too, so I abandoned my hunt and went back to the old Niblicks.
But recently a new brand has entered the arena in Australia – Kikkor Golf.
The brand was founded by Canadian Tour player James Lepp. He developed the golf shoes and styling because he was disillusioned by the lack of variety available. Basically he saw every shoe on offer catering for 50 year old plus golfer.
So in 2010 he launched Kikkor Golf – which focused on practicality, comfort, style and individuality. Well he nailed the concept and these cool golf shoes are now available in Australia through a new online store, www.emotiongolf.com.au.
I recently sampled a pair of the Kikkor Tenny Khaki Crusaders. The first thing that struck me was how comfortable they were. I’ve got a slightly wide foot, but they came with two different with inner soles, so a quick swap to the thinner set and I was in heaven.
I’m not sure what style they are – something like a canvas street shoe I guess. A little funky for me I thought, but the navy blue contrast against the khaki colouring and white under sole looked great, a little nautical if anything. They are also available in a black leather version. I actually wore them from my house to the course and my son even commented on how good they looked as I left. That was high praise indeed from one not at all interested in golf, or their old man’s fashion sense.
Kikkor says it aims to distinguish itself from its competitors by focusing on the ‘cool’ demographic rather than the ‘core’ demographic that other manufactures seem to love. Not everybody likes to dress like a 50 year old they say.
Well this gentleman (not quite 50) likes the cool ideal – so I’m in. And I can’t rave enough about the comfort. They are my new favourite golf shoe!
They have five models on offer – the Tenny (pictured) in Khaki or black leather upper, the Tour Athlete White which is incredibly light but definitely a summer shoe and a more runner looking style, the Tour Class, which comes in white or black leather uppers (and there’s several ladies versions available too).
You should check them out at www.emotiongolf.com.au, take my recommendation and when you’re after a new pair of hooves for the course, get yourself a pair. You won’t be disappointed.

For Cool appearance, great comfort and sensational price tag – what more do you need?
Against Not much – I think on real muddy courses you’d leave them at home as I’m not sure how the khaki suede would handle the mud. Go for the black leather if you play in a swamp!
Pieces They come in pairs (naturally), with extra insoles and laces.
