Clifton Springs to host Maddie's Day

Dec 19, 2017

Every summer, Clifton Springs Golf Club hosts a celebrity Pro Am that attracts over 200 amateur golfers and many spectators. The annual event is the jewell in the Bellarine Peninsula’s sporting calendar and the 2018 instalment promises to be the biggest and most meaningful yet, as we partner with Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision to host ‘Maddie’s Day On The Purple’ on Sunday 14th January, 2018. All proceeds from Maddie’s Day On The Purple will go to Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision to fund medical research to find a cure for Bone Marrow Failure.

The event will see amateur golfers and sporting stars alike converge on the stunning seaside golf course overlooking the Bellarine Peninsula, in the hope of taking home the $11,000 cash prize. There will also be a $10,000 cash prize awarded for a hole in one. Sport stars including Essendon footballer Brendon Goddard, Pro Golfer and Olympic Record holder Marcus Fraser, Geelong veteran Harry Taylor and ex-football star Corey McKernan will be teeing off from the purple turf in support of the event.

Maddie’s Day On The Purple will welcome families and visitors alike to share in the spectacle with a free family day held on the edge of the rolling greens, with a pop up bar and food stand serving Middle Eastern street food, mini golf for the kids, a golf clinic run by the PGA and a Longest Drive Hitting competition for anyone to enter with a gold coin donation.

Heath Mcleod from the PGA says ‘We encourage the local community to come out in support of this great event for a great cause. You’ll get to see the best local professionals along with players from our ISPS HANDA Tour of Australasia and other sports stars battling it out across the day.”

Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision (Maddie’s Vision) was established by the Riewoldt family (including brother and ex-footballer Nick Riewoldt) in June 2015, following the tragic passing of 26-yearold Maddie Riewoldt earlier that year after a five-year fight against a type of Bone Marrow Failure called Alplastic Anaemia. While honouring Maddie’s legacy, Maddie’s Vision has a single purpose to bridge the gap between the need and the ability to uncover the answers that will end Bone Marrow Failures. Bone Marrow Failure is a group of life threatening conditions that are diagnosed in approximately 5 million people globally each year, with the majority of patients being young.

An online auction page is live at cliftonspringsgolfclub.com.au/auction where you can bid on a number of valuable items and experiences including a chance to play alongside Goddard or Fraser, a set of custom fitted Titleist Golf Clubs (valued at $5,000), an Air Conditioner (valued at $1,600), a wine dispenser (valued at $2,000) and a Mitchelton Hotel voucher (valued at $750), to name a few.

Maddie’s Day On The Purple will be held at the Clifton Springs Golf Club on Sunday 14th January, 2018. The Pro-Am will commence at 7:30am, with the family day commencing at 11am.
