FedEx Cup Playoffs begin - six Aussies qualify

Aug 6, 2019

This week marks the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, beginning with the Northern Trust at Liberty National, Jersey. Marc Leishman enters the Playoffs as our highest ranked player (12). He’s joined by Adam Scott (21), Jason Day (40), Cameron Smith (79), Aaron Baddeley (112) and Matt Jones (115). Players finishing between 126th and 200th qualify for a three tournament playoff series on the Korn Ferry Tour with competitors battling for a prized full card on the US Tour next season. Cameron Davis (160) and Curtis Luck (175) both enter this phase.
At the final regular season event many big names took a break in preparation for the lucrative FedEx Cup, however Cameron Davis played hoping for a late season win to make the field (Top125). He finished as our best placed Australian at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield GC, North Carolina in T22. Four other Aussie starters missed the Cut.
The Champions Tour took a break while the Korn Ferry Tour headed to TPC Stonebrae at Hayward California. Rhein Gibson was our only starter to make the Cut eventually finishing well back for T60. He fell back to 12 in the Regular Season standings on that Tour.
The best result this past week by an Australian was at the Mackenzie Tour in Edmonton Canada, where Ryan Ruffles finished T3. This was his fourth Top 3 finish between the Mackenzie and Latinoamerica Tours this year.
The LPGA headed to Woburn GC, Milton Keynes, England for the AIG Women’s British Open. Japan’s Hineko Shibuno headed a strong field to win the event by one stroke on -18 in her Major debut. The 20 year old was playing golf for the first time outside her native Japan.
Australian Minjee Lee finished T11 and US Open winner Hannah Green finished T16 – both great results by the girls!
