HK Lee wins Byron, players ready for PGA Championship

May 17, 2021

It took over a decade on the PGA Tour, but Republic of Korea’s K.H. Lee won his maiden PGA Tour event – the AT & T Byron Nelson. It is good form leading into this week’s second Major – the US PGA Championship held at the Ocean Course, Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

Lee has been showing signs of breaking through in recent times, highlighted by a 2nd at the Waste Management Open earlier this season and he has 4 International victories. Lee used a Callaway EPIC driver and Odyssey Toulon putter during his victory.

A final round 66 for a four round total of -25 was more than enough to hold off second placed Sam Burns and a host of Americans that filled the top 10 with internationals Charl Schwartzel, Jhonattan Vegas and Seamus Power.

Only two Aussies made the weekend action. Marc Leishman continued his good form finishing T21 and Cam Percy finished well back in 70th. Those that missed the cut included Jason Day, Rhein Gibson, Aaron Baddeley, Greg Chalmers and Jon Senden.

Meanwhile, Collin Morikawa will be hoping to defend his US PGA Championship title this week, but it will be tough work for all the starters. The Pete and Alice Dye design is the longest course ever to host a major, measuring over 7800 yards (over 7,100m!). Wind should be a factor too, with the course boasting the most seaside holes of any course in the Northern Hemisphere.
