Leishman only Aussie to make cut, Minjee Lee finishes T3

Apr 23, 2019

After all the excitement of the US Masters, it was a pretty quiet week on the US PGA Tours. The RBC Heritage was the headline tournament and only one Aussie, Marc Leishman, made the cut. After a disappointing Masters, Leish could only conjure up a T58 result in the event won by Taiwanese Pan Cheng-tsung. Pan held off the likes of Matt Kucher, Shane Lowry and the inform Patrick Cantlay to win by one shot (-12) and in doing so he took out his first PGA Tour victory.
Aaron Baddeley, Rod Pampling and Cameron Smith all missed the weekend action.
Once again the best result by an Australian on tour was notched up by World #4 Minjee Lee, who finished T3 at the Lotte Championship at the Ko Olina Course on Hawaii’s Oahu Island.
Canada’s Brooke Henderson took out the event with a fine final round of 70, seeing her gap the field by 4 shots on her way to the US$300,000 winner’s cheque. Lee could only manage a closing round of 74. This week the ladies head to LA for the Hugul-Air Premia LA Open. In a month, they’ll be competing for the US Women’s Open and a US $5 million purse.
In better news for Australia’s male representatives, Stephen Leaney finished T10 in only his second start on the Champions Tour. This strong showing should lead to further success to the Tour rookie. Compatriot David McKenzie finished T61.
Four Aussies teed up on the web.com Tour, with Brett Coletta (T37) and Brett Drewitt (T42) having decent weeks. Jamie Arnold and Rhein Gibson failed to play on the weekend.
The Latinoamerica Tour was the only other event played by the men this past week, and Harrison Endycott put in a very solid performance finishing T12. He now sits in 17th place on the OOM and although missing the cut, Ryan Ruffels remains in 3rd position.
