Lucas Herbert breaks through for first European Tour win

Jan 29, 2020

Aussie Lucas Herbert overcame a six shot deficit leading into the final day of the European Tour’s 2020 Omega Dubai Desert Classic to win his maiden European Tour event.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout was paired with Herbert for the final round and both players were six shots off the pace. However the Emirates Golf Club dished out wild weather and with strong winds and sweeping showers survival was the order of the day. While the leading group faltered in the difficult conditions, both Bezuidenhout and Herbert returned excellent rounds of 68 to finish on 9 under to tie for first place and they went to a playoff.
Herbert found water with his second shot on the first playoff hole, but he played a terrific recovery shot from the drop zone, he made par and the two players returned to the tee to do it all again.
This time Herbert held his nerve, knocking his second shot to 20 feet and a two putt birdie secured his maiden win.
