McIlroy and Lowry win PGA Tour team event

Making their debut appearance as teammates at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry defeated Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer with a par-5 (Foursomes) on the first playoff hole (No. 18). The playoff was the fifth of the PGA TOUR season, played at TPC Louisiana. The winners picked up USD$1.286 million each.

The team’s format event sees teams of two players play Four-Ball in the first and third rounds, and Foursomes (alternate shot) in the second and final rounds.

With the victory, Rory McIlroy earns his 25th PGA TOUR title and first since the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open; the victory comes in his 247th start at the age of 34 years, 11 months.

Shane Lowry wins his third PGA TOUR victory in his 174th start at the age of 37 years, with victory coming 81 starts since his last win at the 2019 Open Championship.
