If you haven’t heard the name Rose Zhang strap in, because it’s going to be a long ride watching her progress on the women’s LPGA Tour. She’s been likened to Tiger, lauded by Tiger and her feats are doing the talking at this early stage of her career. Rose Zhang made history this week, with a win in her professional debut at the Mizuho Americas Open.
Zhang only turned professional last Friday shortly after becoming the first woman ever to win back-to-back NCAA Individual Championships. Now she’s won a sudden death playoff to pip America’s Jennifer Kupcho in her first professional event. Zhang became the first woman since 1951 to win on the LPGA in their professional debut.
Australia’s Stephanie Kyriacou had a great week finishing T10, with Minjee Lee back in T13. Minjee Lee was on fire after the second round firing a superb 64, however weekend rounds of 72 and 75 saw her slip back. In an ironic twist, it was Minjee Lee’s former caddy that held the bag of the newly crowned champ.
