Sergio turns back the clock

Oct 6, 2020

Sergio Garcia enjoyed his first PGA Tour win in three years with victory at the Sanderson Farms Open. The Spaniard came out on top in an event that didn’t pay much attention to the formbook as he produced four sub-par rounds of 68-68-66-67 to take the title.
And it was a leader board that featured none of the pre-tournament fancies. Australian Cameron Davis was in the thick of the action after 3 rounds and a real chance to win, but a disappointing even par final round saw him lose ground, finally settling in T6. He was the only player in the top dozen finishers not to shoot in the red over the final eighteen. It was a disappointing event for other Aussies in the field however, with Cam Percy next best in T59.
These were the standings after Round 4 at the Jackson Country Club…
Final results
-19  Serio Garcia
-18  Peter Malnati
-16  J.T. Poston
-15  Henrik Norlander
-15  Keegan Bradley

It proved the story of our week that none of our players featured on the leader board in Mississippi – something of a rare occurrence. We did, of course, have interest in the Top 20 markets here too heading into the final day, with Wesley Bryan finished tied-12th for a collect.

Aaron Rai. We all remember him from the recent Irish Open – right? He played very well at Galgorm Castle, where he finished in 2nd place.
Well, of course, this week the Englishman went one better and won the Scottish Open!
And so Rai collected a second career title, beating the favourite Tommy Fleetwood in a play-off.
Australian Lucan Herbert continued his solid form finishing in T4 just two shots behind the winner.

Here’s how it finished at The Renaissance SCOTTISH OPEN – Final results
-11  Aaron Rai*
-11  Tommy Fleetwood
-10  Robert Rock
-9  Lucas Herbert
-9  Marc Warren

We’ve got two good tournaments to look forward to this week. On the European Tour there’s easily the best event we’ve seen so far since lockdown, it’s the BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP from Wentworth.
Traditionally played in May, this highly-regarded event was pushed back to September last year, and again finds itself scheduled towards the end of the year after the COVID-enforced break.
But despite everything that’s going on away from the golf course, there’s a strong field assembled at the iconic Virginia Water course, headed by former US Masters champion Patrick Reed.
And then over in the States, on the PGA Tour, the players head for Las Vegas and the SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN OPEN. Another regular feature on the annual golf circuit, the TPC at Summerlin will once again play host to this year’s renewal of what is a standing dish on the Autumn calendar.
Both tournaments get underway on Thursday. We’ll have our preview tomorrow with the Golf Insider
