The 146th Open Championship begins July 19th and will be held at Royal Birkdale. First established in 1889, designers Hawtree and Taylor extensively redesigned the layout to create the course played today. It winds through towering sand dunes lining each fairway. Australia's Peter Thomson won his frist of three successive Championships here and returned again in 1965 to add another to his five Open victories.
