Viktor Hovland shot a course record 9-under 61 in the final round of the penultimate FedExCup playoff event – the 2023 BMW Championship. His 5th PGA Tour wins catapults him into second place as the Top 30 players get set to battle in the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
World #1 Scottie Scheffler shared second place with Mike Fitzpatrick in the BMW at Olympia Fields and he will begin in first place in the staggered start at the season ending event.
Hovland Picked up his fifth PGA TOUR victory in his 97th start just a month shy of his 26th birthday. He became the ninth multiple winner of the season. Hovland posted the lowest final round score in BMW Championship and FedExCup Playoffs history and he also recorded the lowest finish by a winner on TOUR since Tom Kim won the 2022 Wyndham Championship with a 61. It was also his personal-best nine-hole score of 28 on the back nine, equaling best nine-hole score on TOUR this season (seventh instance)
The FedExCup points leader after the first two Playoffs events will begin the TOUR Championship at 10-under par. The No. 2 player will start at 8-under. The No. 3 player starts at 7-under; the No. 4 player starts at 6-under; the No. 5 player starts at 5-under. Players 6-10 start at 4-under; players 11-15 start at 3-under; players 16-20 start at 2-under; players 21-25 start at 1-under; and players 26-30 start at even par.
At the TOUR Championship, the player with the lowest stroke total over 72 holes when combined with his FedExCup Starting Strokes will be crowned the FedExCup champion, be credited with an official victory at the TOUR Championship, earn a bonus of $18 million and a five-year PGA TOUR exemption.
Australia’s Jason Day will be the only representative for the green and gold beginning at -1, nine shots adrift Scheffler.
