Scottie Scheffler wins Gold for USA

Aug 5, 2024

It was a star studded men’s Olympic golf event held at France’s acclaimed Le Golf National Golf Club and countries from around the world were represented by the very best golfers. And they played their very best golf too, capped off with World #1 Scottie Scheffler’s stunning 9 under final round 62 to grab the Gold medal. Starting the day four adrift the lead, he clawed his way back into contention and put an exclamation mark on his victory with four birdies in the final four holes, in a dramatic and exciting finish in front of pack Parisian galleries.
Scheffler only grabbed the lead on the penultimate hole, where he played a miracle shot from the heavy rough to find the green and sink a 6 metre putt for bird. Scheffler finished one shot ahead of Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood (Silver medallist), with Japan’s Hideko Matsuyama in sole third position to claim Bronze.
Hometown hero Victor Perez didn’t let France down claiming fourth with a blistering closing round 63, climbing nine positions during that final round to almost grab a medal. Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm finished T5 (-15), Denmark’s Nicolai Hohgaard 7th, Korea’s Tom Kim 8th, while Australia’s Jason Day shared ninth with Canadian Corey Conners, Chilean Joaquin Niemann, Belgium’s Thomas Detry and World number two Xander Schauffele.
Australia’s second men’s representative Min Woo Lee finished T22.
The women’s event begins Thursday with the green and gold represented by Minjee Lee and Hannah Green.
