Another rookie wins on PGA Tour, Rory Top 20 again

May 11, 2026

Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan gained his first PGA TOUR victory in his 15th start at the 2026 Truist Championship. After entering the day one stroke behind 54-hole leader Alex Fitzpatrick, Reitan carded a final-round 2-under 69 for a two-stroke victory over Rickie Fowler and Nicolai Højgaard.

The PGA TOUR rookie moves from No. 54 to No. 13 in the FedExCup standings in becoming the Fourth first-time winner this season.

Joint runner up Rickie Fowler is the only player with top-10 finishes in each of the last four Signature Events (T9/Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, T8/RBC Heritage, T9/Cadillac Championship, T2/Truist Championship). The six-time TOUR winner (including his first win at the 2012 Truist Championship) now has 16 runner-up finishes in 377 starts and is fine form in season 2026.

In search of his first PGA TOUR victory in his 67th start, Nicolai Højgaard finishes runner-up for the second time this season (Texas Children’s Houston Open) and the fifth time overall, while 54-hole leader Alex Fitzpatrick cards a final-round 2-over 73 to finish solo-fourth and three behind Reitan. It was Fitzpatrick’s third straight top-10 finish (Zurich Classic of New Orleans/1st, Cadillac Championship/T9, Truist Championship/4th).

Four-time Truist Championship winner Rory McIlroy (T19) ranked: first in Strokes Gained Off the Tee (4.192) and 65th out of 72 players in Strokes Gained Around the Green (-3.475). Rory now has 13 top-20 finishes in 15 starts at the event.
