Smith slips, Scheffler holds commanding lead at Masters

Apr 9, 2022

World #1 Scottie Scheffler continued his recent hot form, carding a 67 (-5) to now sit five shots clear of the field after the second day of the Masters at Augusta. In difficult conditions, Scheffler played precision golf to take a commanding lead after 36 holes.
However in his wake are a host of good players. Charl Schwartzel, Sungjae Im, Shane Lowry and Hideki Matsuyama make for an eclectic mix of nationalities and are all in T2 at -3. Americans Harold Varner III, Dustin Johnson, Kevin Na and Australian Cameron Smith all another shot back at -2.
Smith had an indifferent day after starting in second place after the first round. Four bogeys after the first twelve holes and he was slipping behind the pack, however he rallied with birdies at 15 and 18 to stay in contention.
All other Aussies in the field made the cut (just); Cam Davis (73), Marc Leishman (75), Min Lee Woo (75) and Adam Scott (74) sit at +4, 12 shots adrift of the red hot Scheffler.
Tiger Woods carded a 74 to sit at T19, continuing his fairytale return to golf.
Here’s hoping Cameron Smith can find that form of day one when he shot 8 birdies to get in the final pairing for the final round.
