The 10 Best Athletes in History

We have seen many athletes in different sports setting world records. However, not of them are talented enough to be called the greatest athlete of all times. To be called the greatest, you would need to perform time and time again, through the years and keep the competition at bay. It’s something perhaps what Christiano Ronaldo seems to be able to manage today but he isn’t the only one.

The Ten Best Athletes of All Time

Today we have made an effort to list out the 10 best sports person of all times. It should be noted that while no golfer was mentioned in the Top 10, both Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods sat just outside this parameter.

1. Michael Jordan

There must be very few people in the world who doesn’t know about the MJ of basketball. He is retired now but has been the greatest basketball player to be ever born.

2. Muhammad Ali

The game of boxing will always remember the name of Ali. He is included among the greatest heavyweights of all time and still respected today. His determination stands above all in his career.

3. Usain Bolt

Bolt is the fastest human to be times and a noteworthy name in Jamaican sprinting. He has many records including the 200 meters and 100 meters world record. He is also part of the record created by his team in 4x100 meter relay race.

4. Wayne Gretzky

Gretzky made a lot of contribution to hockey with his skills, speed and scoring magic. He got into NHL and soon surpassed all records to create the Oilers Dynasty in a very short time. He is also known for his philanthropic work.

5. Michael Phelps

We really couldn’t have made our list of top 10 athletes without including the name of Phelps. The record holder American swimmer is known all over the world for his hugely successful Olympiad career with 22 medals.

6. Martina Navratilova

Along with Steffi Graf and the Williams sisters, we have to take the name of Martina Navratilova. Billie Jean King called her the greatest singles, doubles and mixed double athlete of all times.

7. Roger Federer

We have another deserving entry from the game tennis. Federer is currently rank 3 in men’s singles according to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He has 19 Grand Slam single titles under his belt!

8. Michael Schumacher

We had to keep Michael in the list even though some don’t consider F1 racers to be athletes. He is considered the world’s greatest driver winning 5 simultaneous titles from 2000 to 2004. His dominance on the sport from the 90s can be made out by anyone easily.

9. Diego Maradona

Many critics and sportsperson consider Maradona to be the greatest footballer of all times. The legendary Argentina player received the award of FIFA Player of the 20th Century along with Pele, another legendary footballer.

10. Pelé

Now comes the turn of Pele who holds a Guinness Records for the number of goals her scored- a total of 1283 goals in 1363 matches. He has a lot to contribute to the Brazilian team where he played for most of his career.
