Rhein Gibson starts hot but slips back in USPGA event

Nov 26, 2019

It was a very quiet week for men’s golf with just the main PGA Tour teeing up in Georgia. The RSM Classic was won by Tyler Duncan of the US, his first PGA Tour title captured on the second playoff hole against Webb Simpson. Duncan made a 12 footer for birdie after a great approach in windy conditions from around 160m.
Many big names had a quiet week, preparing for the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne in a fortnight. Most of the US Team will tee off in Tiger’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas prior to the Cup, meanwhile many Internationals will head down under early and play in the Australian Open in NSW as a warm up to the prestigious team event.
Australian PGA Tour rookie Rhein Gibson had a cracking second round 64 at the RSM Classic and after 36 holes he sat in T2. However he slipped back through the field to finish T43 and he was the best placed Aussie for the week.
Matt Jones finished on -1 (T72), meanwhile Aaron Baddeley, Cameron Davis and Cameron Percy all missed the Cut.
In Naples, Florida the LPGA Tour contested the CME Group Tour Championship and Sei Young Kim took out the title (-18) by one shot from Charley Hull.
Su Oh was the best placed Aussie in T6, earning a handy US$120k for her week’s work. Compatriot Katherine Kirk recorded a Top 20 finish (T18), while better known Aussies Minjee Lee (55) and Hannah Green (T56) finished well back in the field.
