US TOUR: TOP 10 FINISH FOR AUSSIE TRIO
Australians Robert Allenby, Rod Pampling and Adam Scott have all had top ten finishes at the Wachovia Championship, won convincingly by American Anthony Kim.

Kim 22, became the youngest winner on the PGA Tour for more than six years when he clinched the five-stroke victory ahead of Ben Curtis in second place and Jason Bon who placed outright third on 10 under. Kim topped off his thrilling win recording a 16-under total of 272, a tournament record low score, previous tournament record held by Woods.

The best of the Down Under contingent, Robert Allenby stormed home with a bogey-free round of 6 under 66 which included four birdies on the front nine and two on the back to move from T18 overnight and into outright 4th place. The result was his third top 10 placing on the Tour this season (8th top 25) and his best result since he T4 at The Honda Classic in March.

Fellow aussies Rod Pampling (66) and Adam Scott (71) finished in a tie for eighth on 6 under, ten strokes off the pace.

Tasmanian Mathew Goggin fired a four under 68 to move from T37 overnight and finish T17 whilst Geoff Ogilvy who began the day on four under and in a tie for six had a disappointing final round 76 that included five bogeys and a double-bogey on the 18th to slide to a share of 22nd place.

Others to make the cut included John Senden (T25), Aaron Baddeley & Nick O’Hern (T40), Nathan Green (T62), Nick Flanagan (T70) and Stephen Leaney (MDF).

A niggling back complaint forced the withdrawal of Peter Lonard after three holes of his second round at the Wachovia Championship. It was the first time Lonard has ever had to withdraw from an event.

NATIONWIDE TOUR: DE CORSO CLAIMS MAIDEN WIN
Canadian Bryan De Corso claimed his first victory on the Nationwide Tour, capturing the South Georgia Classic by four shots from Americans Greg Owen and Bryce Molder.

The 36 year old from Ontario fired four sub 70 rounds of 68, 69, 68 & 69 to finish on 14-under 284 and take the winners cheque of $US 112,500 – the biggest of his career.

For the first time this season an Australian did not have a top ten finish on the Nationwide Tour, with Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship winner Aron Price the best finisher, closing with a 1 under 71 to finish on 2 under and T24 alongside young West Australian Stephen Dartnell who was playing on the Nationwide Tour for the first time this year.

Australians have won five of the nine events this year on the Nationwide Tour including three on the trot in February, March and April. 2008 winners Jarrod Lyle, Greg Chalmers and Ewan Porter continue to hold the Top 3 positions on the Money List with fellow victors Aron Price in 7th place and Gavin Coles 12th.

ASIAN TOUR: HWANG TAKES GS CALTEX MAEKYUNG OPEN IN PLAY –OFF.
Korea’s Hwang Inn-choon claimed his maiden Asian Tour title, ousting youngster Noh Seung-yul with a play-off win at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship on Sunday.

Hwang denied Noh a place in golf history as he parred the first play-off hole at the par four 18th while Noh missed his par putt and ended his dream run to become Asian Tour’s youngest winner before his 17th birthday on May 29.

After a two stroke lead over the field in the third round, overnight leader Noh kept the momentum going on the final day firing an even-par 72. But Hwang bounced back with a four-under-par 68 to force a play-off as both players were tied on a four-day total of nine-under-par 279s.

At the par four 18th play-off hole, Noh misjudged his approach shot as the ball rolled over the green while Hwang was on the green on two. Noh then chipped short off the pin and missed the par putt while Hwang two putted for par and the win.

As a result of his success, Hwang walked away with the top prize of US$107,142 at the Nam Seoul Country Club.

Unho Park was the best of the Australasians closing with a final round 68 to finish on two under and T15, seven shots behind the leaders. Mitchell Brown was the next best finishing T29 on 1 over.

JAPAN GOLF TOUR: TOP TEN FOR CONRAN AND JONES
Aussies Steve Conran and Brendan Jones both had their second top ten result in three events at The Crowns won in a play off by Japan’s Tomohiro Kondo.

Conran who was in a tie for the lead at the half way mark eventually finished three shots behind Kondo on 6 under for the tournament with Jones one shot further back and T8.

New Zealand’s David Smail secured a Top 20 finished, closing with a final round 69 to finish on 3 under and in a T12.

The trio is all in the current top 20 on the Japan Golf Tour with Conran in 8th place, Jones 9th and Smail 12th.

EUROPEAN TOUR: LAWRIE CLAIMS LONG AWAITED VICTORY
After 175 attempts Irelands Peter Lawrie claimed his first European Tour title, winning on the second play off hole over Spaniard Ignacio Garrido to take honours at the Open de Espana (Spanish Open) in Seville.

Five shots behind entering the final round Lawrie birdied four of the last six holes to card a 5 under 67 and finish on 15 under for the tournament alongside the Spaniard who holed a 35 foot putt to putt to be equal with Lawrie. Both playersbirdied the first play off hole but the Spaniard found water at the second prevented him from creating Tour history by emulating his father Antonio who won the title in 1972.

New Zealand’s Gareth Paddison moved up a couple of spots on the final day with a closing 71 to finish at eight-under and in a tie for 20th, one shot ahead of Australian Peter Fowler who slipped from equal sixth at the start of the day following a final-round 75.

The only other Australasian left in the field, Matthew Millar, was well down the leaderboard at one-under.
