Club Car Series Cash on the Line at Women’s NSW Open
28 January 2012
The 2011-12 Club Car Series draws to a conclusion this Sunday with the bonus points on offer at the Bing Lee Samsung Women’s NSW Open set to guarantee a closely fought finish.
Twenty seven players have played the minimum number events to be eligible in the series which encompasses nine events including six Pro-Ams and three 54 hole tournaments. Heading into today’s first round of the NSW Open, it has come down to four who could walk away with the $7,000 first prize on offer in the fifth year of Club Car’s sponsorship.
Victorian Stacey Keating holds a 540 point lead over former Series winner Rachel Bailey, with Queenslander Bree Arthur 50 points further back, followed by 2010-11 winner Sarah Kemp 210 further adrift. Only these four players have a chance to take away the first place cheque with 900 points on offer to the highest placed finisher of those who are eligible to receive points.
Both Keating and Arthur have notched two wins in the Club Car Series Pro-Ams while the consistent Bailey took advantage of the bonus points (multiplied by 1.5) with her top five finish at the Women’s Victorian Open.
Keating will be difficult to catch given her consistent play this season and the unlikely scenario that she will record no points this week. The three chasers will however be fighting for top billing for a chance to overtake the 2010 Australian amateur champion, Keating. The leading ten players in each Club Car Series event receive points scaled back from 900 to 105 points.
On completion of the NSW Open final round the leading eight players in the Club Car Series table will receive a share of the $17,500 bonus pool and will receive their Sunday cheques from Kevin Gates, Vice President Asia Pacific Club Car LLC Ingersoll Rand.
