The Australian Golf Writers Association through its President Peter Stone announced today that it recently auctioned one of the best pieces of golfing memorabilia ever seen in this country with $6,000 from the sale being divided between two Victorian bushfire ravaged golf clubs.
The AGWA was sent two blank pin flags by Mark Cubbedge the Manager of Collections and Research at the Florida based World Golf Hall of Fame as a part of its support for the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund and the Association was able to have both signed by Australia's only living members of the WGHOF namely Peter Thomson, Kel Nagle, Greg Norman and Karrie Webb.
One of the two flags was returned to Florida and is on display at the World Golf Hall Of Fame and the other was the one that went to the highest bidder with proceeds to be equally divided by the Marysville Golf Club and the Horsham Golf Club which were devastated in Victoria's disastrous February bushfires.
The pin flag that was sold was purchased by a Queensland golf enthusiast for $6,100 and after taking out the cost of framing and freight each of the
clubs will receive $3,000 from the golf writers association. The cheque for the Marysville Golf Club will be presented to it shortly by AGWA
Treasurer Brendan Moloney and the cheque for the Horsham Golf Club will be presented by AGWA Secretary George Begg. Both clubs are grateful to the golf writers for their support.
