Kiwi Ko becomes youngest ever winner of a professional event

30 January 2012

The 14-year-old from New Zealand won the Bing Lee/Samsung NSW Women's Open at the weekend to go with the Australian Women's Amateur title she claimed in Melbourne the week before.

Ko will tee up with the professionals again this week at the RACV Gold Coast Ladies Masters and already she has been swamped with media requests.

“She did a heap of interviews yesterday and she is scheduled to do a press conference tomorrow,” said ALPG Media Coordinator Sandy Lonergan.

“The story has gone around the world but she's handling it all amazingly well.”

Ko will also tee up at the Women's Australian Open at Royal Melbourne next week thanks to her victory at the Australian Amateur.

The tournament will be co-sanctioned with the US LPGA for the first time and is expected to host the strongest field in the history of Australian women's professional golf.

Teen sensation Lydia Ko has drawn headlines from around the world after becoming the youngest player ever to win a professional golf tournament.
