O’Malley and Stolz headline Vic PGA

20 January 2012

The Adroit Insurance Group Victorian PGA Championship is starting to take shape with Peter O’Malley and Andre Stolz joining the field at Forest Resort Creswick from 13 – 19 February.

One of the most recognised names in Australian golf, Peter O’Malley will be looking to capture the Jack Harris Trophy after finishing runner-up at last year’s Victorian PGA Championship.

“I am really looking forward to this year’s Victorian PGA and being from Bathurst in NSW, I am delighted that we are playing in regional Victoria” O’Malley said.

With this the first time Forest Resort Creswick will host the tournament an added challenge will be faced by many of the professionals who will not yet have played the course.

“For me, like many of the other guys, it will be my first time playing the course which will add a new challenge.”

“Once we get the speed of the greens and get used to the prevailing wind I am confident you will see some good scoring.”

“I think it will be interesting for the local crowds to see how each of the pros play the course and have different approaches to course management.”

Also set to thrill the crowds is OneAsia Order of Merit winner Andre Stolz who will start his 2012 season at the Adroit Insurance Group Victorian PGA Championship.

“I had a very successful season overseas in 2011 and I am looking forward to kicking off my 2012 year with a strong showing at the Victorian PGA,” said Stolz.

“I haven’t played a lot of tournament golf since the Australian PGA so I am feeling refreshed and just can’t wait to get back into it.”

Stolz who won the tournament back in 2009 will have his sights firmly on claiming the title for the second time.

“Winning a tournament is always a great feeling but to claim a Championship for the second time I imagine will be even sweeter."

“If I do manage to win it would be without a doubt an excellent way to head back to OneAsia and start my Order of Merit title defence.”

With the inclusion of Peter O’Malley and Andre Stolz the Victorian PGA Championship is set to be a success in its first time to regional Victoria in more than 25 years.

“It is fantastic news for the Victorian PGA Championship that players the calibre of Peter and Andre are willing to travel to regional Victoria, providing access to world class golfers that sports fans in the area would not have otherwise had the opportunity to watch,” said Nick Thornton, Executive Officer of the Southern Division of the PGA of Australia.

The Adroit Insurance Group Victorian PGA Championship will be played over 72 holes at the Forest Resort Creswick.

Round one will tee off on Thursday 16th February with the tournament set to conclude on Sunday 19th January 2011.

The event is the second tournament on the 2012 PGA Tour of Australasia schedule.
