American Stacy Lewis captured her second LPGA title on Sunday with victory at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic. The margin was one shot over teen-sensation Lexi Thompson with Frenchwoman Karine Icher a further shot back in third.
Karrie Webb had the chance to contend on Sunday, entering the final round five shots behind Lewis. A final round of 69 was good enough to climb up to a tie for 4th. Lindsey Wright completed another good week, four rounds under par to wind up in a tie for 9th while Sarah Kemp (T45) and Wendy Doolan (T70) also made the cut.
A couple of the biggest names in women's golf didn't play in Alabama this week including Yani Tseng, Ai Miyazato and Jiyai Shin but don't let that take away from what was a magnificent contest between two players who will surely be battling it down the stretch for years to come.
Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson put on a fine show on Sunday in Mobile, the former taking the crown but the latter leaving everyone with a thirst for more. Thompson posted a final round of 78 when in contention at the same tournament last year, this year it was a bogey-free 65 - watch this space for plenty more to come from this teen prodigy.
